Dj Hell

Under the name DJ Hell, Helmut Josef Geier has built a lasting career in German club music from Munich. Born in Altenmarkt an der Alz, Bavaria, he began mixing in Munich’s nightlife in the early 1980s, at a time when house, techno, EBM, new wave and Italo disco coexisted across European clubs. DJ Hell has constructed a repertoire in which house and techno converse with electro, dark disco and a post‑new‑wave aesthetic, producing music that is both danceable and taut. After the album Geteert und Gefedert (1994) he released Munich Machine (1998), Teufelswerk (2009) and Zukunftsmusik (2017). In 1996 he founded International DeeJay Gigolo Records in Munich, a label associated with the intersections of techno, electro and electroclash around the turn of the millennium. A producer, remixer and DJ, he remains active on club and festival circuits, between European dance culture and a more minimal approach to German electronic music.
