Cult Of Luna
Formed in Umeå in northern Sweden in the late 1990s, Cult of Luna initially emerged from the local hardcore scene before developing a broader voice at the intersection of post-metal, sludge and post-hardcore. The band builds its compositions around massive guitars, slow progressions, contrasting dynamics and a strong attention to atmospheric textures, often using long formats that blend tension, repetition and gradual intensification. After a self-titled debut in 2001, they honed their language on The Beyond (2003), Salvation (2004) and Somewhere Along the Highway (2006), and continued this evolution with Eternal Kingdom (2008) and Vertikal (2013), the latter inspired by urban and industrial imagery. In 2016 Cult of Luna recorded Mariner with Julie Christmas, a collaboration that heightened the narrative and vocal dimension of their music. This was followed by A Dawn to Fear (2019), the EP The Raging River (2021) and The Long Road North (2022), which extend a practice grounded in sonic density, rhythmic ruptures and a highly constructed approach to crescendo.
