Wolves In The Throne Room

Founded in 2002 in Olympia, Washington, Wolves In The Throne Room was built around brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver, developing a black metal approach shaped by the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Their music blends atmospheric black metal with ambient passages and influences from doom and post-metal, often in lengthy formats where tremolo guitars, repetitive rhythms and meditative soundscapes take center stage. After an initial demo in 2004, the band released Diadem of 12 Stars (2006), Two Hunters (2007) and Black Cascade (2009) — three records that established a dense, organic and expansive sound. With Celestial Lineage (2011), recorded as a duo, they extended this aesthetic before temporarily diverging with Celestite (2014), an ambient album linked to the previous themes. Wolves In The Throne Room returned to a more direct form with Thrice Woven (2017), followed by Primordial Arcana (2021), recorded in their own studio in Washington State. The EP Crypt of Ancestral Knowledge appeared in 2023. Over the years they have shared bills with acts such as Sunn O))) and Earth and played festivals like Roadburn, Hellfest and Roskilde.
