AmenRa
Anchored in Kortrijk, Belgium, AmenRa has established itself since the late 1990s with a brand of heavy metal situated between sludge, post‑metal and doom, marked by a ritualistic and introspective dimension. Founded around Colin H. van Eeckhout and Mathieu Vandekerckhove, the band is part of the European hardcore and metal scene while pursuing an extensive approach to imagery, lyrics and staging within the artistic collective Church of Ra. Their discography is notably structured around the Mass album series — Mass III (2005), Mass IIII (2008), Mass V (2012) and Mass VI (2017) — alongside more stripped‑down projects such as Afterlife (2009) and Alive (2016). AmenRa’s sound relies on stretched tensions, alternating slowness, explosive surges and spoken or whispered passages, with vocals shifting between saturated screams and clean singing. On stage the band favours immersive performances accompanied by projections and dark, minimalist lighting, and occasionally collaborates with other acts from the Church of Ra circle as well as artists from dance and visual arts, carving out a distinctive place in the contemporary metal landscape.
