Celeste
Formed in Lyon, France, in the mid‑2000s, Celeste developed a sound positioned between black metal, sludge and post‑hardcore, marked by dense rhythms, shouted vocals in French and a dark, oppressive atmosphere. Emerging from Lyon's hardcore scene, the band first built its reputation through shows in independent venues in France and then across Europe, with a stage aesthetic focused on darkness and precise lighting. The first studio albums Pessimiste(s) (2008) and Nihiliste(s) (2009) laid the groundwork for a compact and aggressive style, continued by Morte(s) Nee(s) in 2010. With Animale(s) in 2013, Celeste stretched formats, introduced greater contrasts and more clearly moved toward a post‑metal approach, while retaining very tight songwriting. Infidèle(s) (2017) and Assassine(s) (2022) continued this evolution toward more atmospheric compositions, in which guitar textures and tension build‑ups play a central role. Through tours in Europe and Japan and releases on specialized labels such as Denovali and later Nuclear Blast, Celeste has firmly established itself within the francophone extreme scene while maintaining an immediately recognizable sonic identity.
