Paul Cauthen

Originally from East Texas, Paul Cauthen has developed a songwriting approach rooted in country, country rock, Americana and outlaw country, with a distinctive baritone voice and a clear taste for arrangements with gospel and soul accents. Cauthen first came to prominence as part of the duo Sons of Fathers, formed in San Marcos in 2009 with David Beck, releasing two albums under that name: Sons of Fathers (2011) and Burning Days (2013). After the group split in 2014, he embarked on a more direct solo path, first with My Gospel in 2016, then the Have Mercy EP in 2018 and Room 41 in 2019, an album written during a period of personal and musical transition. His repertoire blends country ballads, drier rhythms drawn from Southern rock and a vocal approach rooted in the religious harmonies he heard in childhood. He has also worked with The Texas Gentlemen, shared covers with Cody Jinks and recorded two tracks with Orville Peck in 2020 under the name Unrighteous Brothers. His subsequent discography includes Country Coming Down (2022) and Book of Paul (2026).
