Cage the Elephant
Formed in Bowling Green, Kentucky in 2006, Cage the Elephant built itself around brothers Matt and Brad Shultz, with a rock base quickly fed by garage rock, alternative rock, abrasive blues, post-punk and psychedelic touches. After beginnings in the United States, the group moved to London in 2008, a move that accompanied the emergence of its first album, Cage the Elephant, released the same year. Initially marked by a raw and nerve-wracking energy, Cage the Elephant's sound broadened with Thank You, Happy Birthday in 2011, then with Melophobia in 2013, where songwriting became more contrasted and the arrangements darker. The departure of guitarist Lincoln Parish at the end of 2013 marked a transition, before the enduring arrival of Nick Bockrath and Matthan Minster into an expanded lineup. Produced by Dan Auerbach, Tell Me I’m Pretty appeared in 2015 and intensified a taste for more vintage textures, while Social Cues in 2019 continued this evolution with a tenser and more introspective mood. Used to big rock stages and international festivals, Cage the Elephant has also shared bills with bands like Foo Fighters, Muse, Beck or Metallica. Their sixth studio album, Neon Pill, was released in 2024, confirming for Cage the Elephant a trajectory of regular stylistic shifts within a melodic, punchy and ever-changing alternative rock.
