Young The Giant

Born in the mid-2000s in the suburbs of Irvine, California, Young the Giant first emerged under the name The Jakes, formed by a group of high-school friends before adopting their current name in 2009. The core of Young the Giant comprises Sameer Gadhia (vocals), Jacob Tilley and Eric Cannata (guitars), Payam Doostzadeh (bass) and François Comtois (drums and backing vocals), centered on indie and alternative rock with a strong melodic focus. The self-titled debut Young the Giant (2010) established the band on the American scene with a guitar-forward sound; Mind over Matter (2014) broadened their palette toward more expansive pop-rock, incorporating increased synthetic textures. Home of the Strange (2016) deepens the themes of identity and migrant heritage that run through their songwriting, while Mirror Master (2018) concentrates on more introspective songs, playing on contrasts between ballads and more driving tracks. With American Bollywood (2022), conceived as a multi-part cycle, Young the Giant more overtly explores questions of diaspora and cultural transmission, integrating influences beyond Western rock. Active on club stages, mid-size venues and festivals, the band alternates headlining tours and opening slots, building over their records a repertoire that sits between indie rock, alternative pop and choral-tinged balladry.
