Twenty One Pilots
Born out of the independent scene in Columbus, Ohio, Twenty One Pilots initially revolved around Tyler Joseph, later joined by drummer Josh Dun to form a duo in 2011. Blending alternative pop, rock, rap, electronic elements, and emo influences, Twenty One Pilots crafts songwriting centered on anxiety, identity, and spirituality, with a marked penchant for narrative worlds. After two self-released albums, “Twenty One Pilots” (2009) and “Regional at Best” (2011), the band signed with Fueled by Ramen and brought its hybrid aesthetic to a wider audience with “Vessel” (2013), then “Blurryface” (2015), which introduced a fictional character as a throughline for themes of doubt and the artist–audience relationship. The conceptual dimension deepened with “Trench” (2018) and “Scaled and Icy” (2021), and continued on “Clancy” (2024), which extends this storyline. Seasoned in arenas and at international festivals alike, the duo emphasizes a direct connection with its audience, highly participatory live shows, and stagecraft conceived as an extension of their songs.
