IST IST

Formed in Manchester in the mid-2010s, IST IST belongs to the British post-punk scene, developing a dark, direct sound marked by a low vocal, taut guitars and the use of repetitive motifs. The band — centered on singer/guitarist Adam Houghton alongside Andy Keating, Mat Peters and Joel Kay — drew attention with a series of independently released singles and EPs before issuing their debut album "Architecture" in 2020, which defined an aesthetic blending post-punk, cold wave and alternative rock. In 2021 IST IST followed with "The Art of Lying", which deepened the use of keyboards and more melodic textures while retaining songwriting focused on tight structures and an introspective atmosphere. "Protagonists", released in 2023, continues this progression by slightly widening the sonic spectrum toward more spacious arrangements, without abandoning the rhythmic dryness that characterizes IST IST. Prominent on club and festival stages across the UK and later in Europe, the quartet has developed a direct, minimalist live format that emphasizes group dynamics and the tension between basslines, a metronomic pulse and synth washes — central elements of IST IST’s musical identity.
