The 113
Based in Leeds, The 113 sits within the British underground scene with a taut post-punk sound, threaded by dissonant guitars, jagged rhythms and an energy close to noise rock. The band develops a writing focused on contemporary anxieties, particularly surveillance, data extraction and forms of dispossession linked to digital life, in an abrasive aesthetic and deliberately claustrophobic atmosphere. The 113 made a name for itself in the early 2020s with a series of singles and short releases circulated on platforms, accompanying its emergence on Leeds' and the north of England's independent scenes. The track 'Leach', carried by the voice of Jack Grant, illuminates well this orientation, between political tension and a feeling of powerlessness, with a dry, nervous sound and no decorative effects. Through this approach, The 113 extends certain codes of British post-punk while shifting them toward a more direct register, where rhythmic urgency and saturation serve a message directly anchored in the disturbances of the present.
