Pale Blue Eyes
Born out of back-and-forths between Totnes in Devon and Sheffield, Pale Blue Eyes has been crafting an indie pop sound since the early 2020s with shades of synth-pop, dream pop and post-punk, driven by steady rhythms, supple bass lines, hazy guitars and a pronounced taste for melancholic melodies. The core of Pale Blue Eyes is Matt and Lucy Board, a couple in life and in music, joined by bassist Aubrey Simpson after meeting at the Sea Change festival, giving the project a trio format where pop songwriting blends with a DIY approach to production. Pale Blue Eyes first released Souvenirs in 2022, then This House in 2023 and New Place in 2025 — three albums that extend an aesthetic both nostalgic and crisp, between light electronic modernity and a British alternative legacy. The recordings are produced by the band, with finalization handled by Dean Honer, a musician and producer long associated with the Sheffield scene. Over their trajectory Pale Blue Eyes have toured the UK and Europe, shared bills with acts such as Slowdive, Sea Power and Public Service Broadcasting, and had several tracks played on BBC Radio 6 Music. On stage the band also performs with Lewis Johnson-Kellett on guitar and keyboards.
