Then Comes Silence

Born in Stockholm in the early 2010s around Alex Svenson, Then Comes Silence continues the lineage of post-punk, cold wave and gothic rock with direct songwriting, taut basslines, dry guitars and a nocturnal atmosphere that remains rooted in a rock format. Initially conceived as a Svenson-led project before becoming a band, Then Comes Silence released a self-titled debut in 2012, followed by Then Comes Silence II in 2013 and Nyctophilian in 2015, which further broadened the spectrum between minimalist tension, dark melodies and a pulse inherited from the European dark scene. With Blood in 2017 and Machine in 2020, Then Comes Silence sharpened a more frontal sound, still tied to post-punk and goth aesthetics but with a more nervous, at times death-rock-adjacent dimension. Hunger, released in 2022, continues that trajectory with tighter songs and denser production. Over the course of tours, Then Comes Silence has played alternative stages across Europe and North America, in a register where live energy matters as much as the band’s visual and sonic identity.
