Actors

Based in Vancouver on Canada’s west coast, Actors belongs to the post-punk and darkwave tradition that revisits the 1980s aesthetic. Formed in the early 2010s around singer, guitarist and producer Jason Corbett, Actors have developed a sound defined by prominent basslines, melodic yet sharp guitars, dark synth layers and a deep vocal delivery, with concise songwriting that favors song formats. After releasing several independent singles and EPs and maintaining a steady presence on Vancouver’s alternative scene, the band signed to Canadian label Artoffact Records and released the 2018 album It Will Come to You, which established Actors on North American and European post-punk circuits. In 2021, the second album Acts of Worship deepened this approach—combining mechanical rhythms, new wave textures and a melancholic tone—while opening the band’s palette to more immediate choruses. The group continues to tour clubs and festivals, often associated with goth, cold wave and synth-pop communities, while Jason Corbett also pursues production and arrangement work for other acts from the same scene.
