Macha Gharibian

Macha Gharibian will take the stage at the New Morning in Paris on April 14, 2026, to present Phenomenal Women. A Franco-Armenian composer, pianist and singer, she carves a path between contemporary jazz, song and repertoires from Asia Minor. Her piano moves through bursts of improvisation, and her voice travels from one language to another — Armenian, French, English, Arabic, Portuguese — as a way of expanding the frame and allowing stories to converse.

Her new album borrows its title from a poem by Maya Angelou and foregrounds the plurality of women’s voices. For this project, Macha invites Swiss singer Lea Maria Fries and Swedish vocalist Linda Oláh to join her trio, alongside Fabrice Moreau on drums and Sylvain “Kenny” Ruby on electric bass. Together they weave vocal harmonies and supple textures, between delicate pulses and melodies that give the music room to breathe. It’s an occasion where sisterhood is embodied in sound, carried by a band that is attentive and close-knit, and by a musician who enjoys blending intimacy, improvisation and the collective.
