François Salque

French cellist François Salque develops a career centered on the classical repertoire and chamber music, with activity shared between the stage, recording, and teaching. Trained notably at the Conservatoire de Paris and then graduated from Yale University, Salque was a member of the Ysaÿe Quartet between 2000 and 2004, a period during which he tackled a wide range of works from Haydn, Schumann and Fauré to Magnard, Boucourechliev, or Beethoven. His chamber music work led him to perform with musicians such as Éric Le Sage, Alexandre Tharaud, Emmanuel Pahud, Michel Portal, or Vincent Peirani, in contexts that connect the great repertoire, contemporary creation, and forms more open to traditional musics. Several composers, among them Nicolas Bacri, Karol Beffa, Thierry Escaich, Bruno Mantovani, and Kryštof Mařatka, have dedicated works to him. His discography documents this diversity, notably Est in 2010 and Tanguillo in 2013 with Vincent Peirani, as well as Beethoven's Cello Sonatas in 2014 and then Brahms' in 2020 with Éric Le Sage. Salque also teaches at the Haute École de musique de Lausanne and at the Conservatoire de Paris.
