André Manoukian

André Manoukian is a French pianist, composer and author of Armenian origin, recognised for his melodic gift and sensitive approach to jazz. Born in Lyon, he trained in music from an early age before studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he refined his taste for harmony and improvisation. From the 1980s he established himself as a composer and arranger, collaborating with many artists of the French chanson, notably Liane Foly, with whom he co‑wrote several hits. At the same time he pursued a career as a jazz pianist, undertaking projects that blend oriental influences, contemporary sonorities and classical heritage. His albums, often marked by a search for a balance between emotion and sophistication, attest to his love of cultural dialogue and his passion for melody. A media personality appreciated for his humour and musical knowledge, André Manoukian is also a teacher and communicator, able to make jazz accessible to all without compromising its demands.
