Antonio Lizana
Saxophonist, singer and composer Antonio Lizana develops a project at the crossroads of flamenco and jazz, nourished by his roots in San Fernando, near Cádiz in Andalusia. Initially propelled by the local flamenco scene, Antonio Lizana gradually turned to jazz improvisation and built a repertoire where the cante, traditional palos and Andalusian rhythms blend with contemporary harmonies. From the early 2010s he drew attention with his band on club and festival stages in Spain and then across Europe, while expanding collaborations with musicians from the jazz and world-music spheres. His first album, De viento (2012), laid the foundations of this flamenco-jazz aesthetic, continued with Quimeras del mar (2015), and followed by Oriente (2017) and Una realidad diferente (2020), which opened his writing further to Mediterranean and Latin influences. In concert, Antonio Lizana alternates saxophone playing, singing and spoken passages, establishing a form of musical narrative in which Andalusian tradition and the language of jazz constantly interact.
