Joost
Active on the Dutch scene since the mid-2010s, Joost Klein has been developing a project at the intersection of rap, pop, and electronic music shaped by rave and happy hardcore. Hailing from the province of Friesland in the Netherlands, Joost first drew attention under the moniker EenhoornJoost with absurdist online videos, before gradually shifting his focus toward music. His early tracks circulated on the internet, blending Dutch-language rap, web-culture references, and eurodance-leaning sounds, which soon brought him from the screen to club and festival stages in the Netherlands, and later in Belgium and Germany. From the late 2010s onward, he released a series of long-form projects, refining a style in which sung hooks, fast tempos, and more introspective passages coexist within the same songs. Joost Klein’s lyrics balance humor and nostalgia with more personal themes related to grief and identity. His work also extends to collaborations with artists from the Dutch hip-hop and electronic scenes, as well as regular tours across the German-speaking world. In 2024, Joost Klein is selected to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest with the track "Europapa," further expanding the international reach of a universe that remains rooted in Dutch-language culture.
