Carcass

Active since the mid-1980s, Carcass was formed in Liverpool, UK, around guitarist Bill Steer and drummer Ken Owen, soon joined by bassist and vocalist Jeff Walker. Initially associated with grindcore and goregrind, the band developed on "Reek of Putrefaction" (1988) and "Symphonies of Sickness" (1989) a very fast, heavily distorted sound paired with medical and anatomical imagery. With "Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious" (1991) and "Heartwork" (1993), Carcass moved toward a more structured and melodic death metal, marked by crafted riffs and a clearer guitar tone, before exploring more rock- and heavy‑oriented elements on "Swansong" (1996), shortly before their first breakup. Reformed from 2007 for tours on the international extreme metal circuit, Carcass stabilized a new lineup around Steer and Walker and released "Surgical Steel" (2013) and "Torn Arteries" (2021), which continue this blend of death metal, pronounced melodies and fast tempos. Frequently appearing at festivals and on tour, Carcass remains linked to the evolution of grindcore and melodic death metal that emerged from the British scene.
