Vader

Formed in the early 1980s in Olsztyn, Poland, Vader began as a heavy/thrash band before quickly shifting to a direct, rhythmically dense death metal. Centered on singer and guitarist Piotr “Peter” Wiwczarek—the constant core of a frequently changing lineup—the band issued several demos, notably Morbid Reich in 1990, which rooted them in the European underground scene. Their debut album The Ultimate Incantation was released in 1992 on Earache Records, followed by De Profundis (1995) and Black to the Blind (1997), which established a style combining straightforward structures, sharp guitars, deep vocals and thrash influences. Through releases such as Litany (2000), Revelations (2002) and The Beast (2004), Vader maintained a primarily death metal register while varying tempos, rhythmic arrangements and melodic touches. Later signed to Metal Blade and then Nuclear Blast, the band continued with albums including Welcome to the Morbid Reich (2011), Tibi et Igni (2014), The Empire (2016) and Solitude in Madness (2020), remaining highly active on stage with club shows, European and North American tours and specialized festivals. Vader’s lyrics focus on warlike, occult and apocalyptic themes, placing the Polish band within a death metal tradition that is both aggressive and structured.
