Aborted

Formed in 1995 in Waregem, Belgium around vocalist Sven de Caluwé, Aborted developed a brutal death metal sound tinged with deathgrind, marked by gore-, hospital- and horror-themed imagery. From The Purity of Perversion (1999) and Engineering the Dead (2001), Aborted established a foundation of dense riffs, fast tempos and frequent breaks, before pushing that extreme approach further on Goremageddon: The Saw and the Carnage Done (2003) and The Archaic Abattoir (2005). The albums Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture (2007) and Strychnine.213 (2008) began a shift toward a more modern sound, with clearer structures, restrained melodic work and cleaner production, later confirmed by Global Flatline (2012) and The Necrotic Manifesto (2014). With Retrogore (2016), and subsequent releases such as the short La Grande Mascarade (2020) and Maniacult (2021), Aborted refined a blend of technical brutal death metal, grindcore-like passages and heavier sequences, carried by an alternating use of high and low guttural vocals. Despite numerous lineup changes, Aborted remains centered on Sven de Caluwé and has established a lasting presence on European and North American extreme metal stages, combining tours, specialized festivals and occasional collaborations with musicians from other death metal bands.
