Nourished by Time

Under the name Nourished by Time, Marcus Elliot Brown has been developing a project since 2020 that sits between alternative R&B, synth-pop and indie electronic, with post-punk textures and echoes of early-1990s freestyle and R&B. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he initially released music under the aliases Riley With Fire and Mother Marcus while living in Los Angeles, before adopting this new name for his solo work. His approach, often lo-fi and direct, takes shape in songs where soulful melodies, danceable rhythms and a more abrasive tone coexist. Partly recorded in his parents’ basement during the lockdowns, Erotic Probiotic 2 (2023) served as a true point of emergence, refining a language that blends indie pop, Baltimore club music and introspective songwriting. Nourished by Time followed with the EP Catching Chickens (2024), released after signing to XL Recordings, and the album The Passionate Ones (2025). Alongside his releases he has toured North American and European stages, notably alongside Dry Cleaning, and collaborated with Yaeji on the track “Happy” in 2023.
