Ty Dolla $ign

Born in Los Angeles in 1982, Ty Dolla $ign, whose real name is Tyrone William Griffin Jr., belongs to a Californian tradition where contemporary R&B intersects with West Coast hip-hop, trap and funk and soul legacies. The son of musician Tyrone Griffin of Lakeside, he developed an early, wide-ranging approach to music — singing, songwriting, production and composition. He first drew attention around 2010 alongside YG on "Toot It and Boot It," then honed his identity with the mixtapes Beach House (2012) and Beach House 2 (2013), followed by the Beach House EP in 2014. His music is built on a supple voice, often half-sung, half-rapped, very melodic hooks and rhythms that mix R&B sensuality with the punch of Los Angeles rap. Ty Dolla $ign went on to release the albums Free TC (2015), Beach House 3 (2017) and Featuring Ty Dolla Sign (2020). At the same time he has been a significant featured artist and songwriter, regularly collaborating across rap, pop and R&B, with credits on tracks for artists such as Chris Brown, Omarion and on "FourFiveSeconds" by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney. He also released MihTy with Jeremih in 2018, Cheers to the Best Memories with dvsn in 2021, and Vultures 1 and Vultures 2 with Kanye West under the name ¥$ in 2024.
