Masego

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, as Micah Davis and partly raised in Virginia after several moves prompted by his father’s military career, Masego has, since the early 2010s, crafted a musical world that sits between contemporary R&B, hip‑hop, jazz and trap, with the saxophone as a unifying thread. The Jamaican‑American artist first released several mixtapes before refining an approach he calls “TrapHouseJazz,” where singing, rap phrasing, improvisation and urban rhythms blend into flexible, melodic tracks. After The Pink Polo EP with Medasin in 2015 and Loose Thoughts in 2016, Masego gained wider attention in 2017 with “Tadow,” recorded with FKJ in a largely improvised session. His debut album, Lady Lady, appeared in 2018 and develops a more measured songwriting style, between modern soul, jazz grooves and stripped-back production. The 2020 EP Studying Abroad extended this hybrid aesthetic, followed by the album Masego in 2023. Over the years he has also appeared alongside SiR, Kehlani, Kaytranada, Yussef Dayes and Braxton Cook, moving between neo‑soul, contemporary jazz and alternative hip‑hop scenes.
