Wild Rivers

Based in Toronto, Canada, Wild Rivers develops an indie folk sound with pop inflections, carried by a male-female vocal duo. Formed in the mid-2010s around singer-songwriters Khalid Yassein and Devan Glover, and later joined by Andrew Oliver and Julien Laferrière, the band gradually made a name for itself on Canadian and then North American stages, performing in coffeehouses, clubs and as openers for contemporary folk artists. Wild Rivers’ music rests on prominent vocal harmonies, often acoustic guitars, a supple rhythmic feel and understated arrangements drawing from folk, soft rock and indie pop. A self-titled debut album was released in 2016, followed by several EPs in the late 2010s that honed their songwriting toward more melodic and structured formats. With Songs To Break Up To (EP, 2020), Wild Rivers directly tackles themes of breakup, nostalgia and emotional distance, using slow tempos and more detailed textures. The second album, Sidelines (2022), marks a new phase in the band’s trajectory, expanding the palette toward more arranged tracks while retaining songwriting focused on intimate storytelling and the balance between male and female voices.
