Declan Welsh and The Decadent West

Formed in Glasgow around singer-songwriter Declan Welsh, Declan Welsh and The Decadent West play an indie rock style with post-punk and pop overtones, driven by taut guitars, sharp choruses and writing that often sits halfway between singing and spoken delivery. The band originally developed as a four-piece with Duncan McBride, Ben Corlett and Murray Noble, before moving to a looser configuration centered on Declan Welsh and bassist Ben Corlett. After several EPs, they released Cheaply Bought Expensively Sold in 2019, and have continued to focus on material addressing both political and social tensions and more intimate themes such as solitude and loss of bearings. This trajectory has been accompanied by sustained touring across UK and European venues and festivals like Glastonbury, TRNSMT and Reeperbahn. The group later worked with producer Gianluca Buccaletti on their subsequent recordings. Declan Welsh and The Decadent West have announced a third album, Explicit Agitation, due in 2026.
