Mystery Jets
Born on Eel Pie Island in Twickenham, west London, Mystery Jets formed in the early 2000s around Blaine Harrison, William Rees, Kai Fish and Blaine’s father, Henry Harrison, who remained involved in the lyrics. Initially marked by indie rock with psychedelic and post‑punk edges, the band drew attention on the British scene with early shows and parties held on their home island before releasing Making Dens in 2006. Mystery Jets combined keyboards, restless guitars and pop melodies in a frequently shifting format, refined on Twenty One in 2008 — a more direct album that includes Young Love with Laura Marling. Serotonin (2010) continued that pop‑rock approach with a broader production, while Radlands (2012), partly recorded in Austin, Texas, introduced a more American, contemplative hue. With Curve of the Earth (2016) the band returned to dreamier textures, and A Billion Heartbeats (2020) took a more forthright stance on social and political themes. Through line‑up changes, including William Rees’s departure in 2020, Mystery Jets have preserved an identity built on melodic choruses, careful arrangements and a balance between indie pop, psychedelic rock and English songwriting.
