The HU

Formed in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in 2016, The HU developed a hybrid rock/metal style they call "hunnu rock", rooted in throat singing and traditional Mongolian instruments integrated with heavy riffs and rhythms akin to alternative metal. The group's early videos for "Yuve Yuve Yu" and "Wolf Totem", released in 2018, quickly established them on the international scene and paved the way for extensive touring across Asia, Europe and North America. The HU's debut album, The Gereg (2019), structures this blend of guttural vocals, collective choirs and steppe-inspired melodic motifs, while Rumble of Thunder (2022) emphasizes the heavier elements and strengthens the band's position within contemporary metal and hard rock circuits. Since then The HU has increasingly collaborated with musicians from Western rock and metal bands, notably Serj Tankian and Jacoby Shaddix, and has appeared at numerous international festivals where this crossing of Mongolian heritage and amplified music occupies a central place in the project's sonic identity.
