Bloodywood
Born on YouTube in New Delhi, India, Bloodywood began as a project of metal covers of pop songs and Bollywood film tunes before gradually evolving into a full-fledged band focused on original compositions. Around guitarist and producer Karan Katiyar, singer Jayant Bhadula and rapper Raoul Kerr, Bloodywood developed a hybrid metal that mixes groove, nu metal influences, elements of Indian folk music and an alternation of rapped vocals, melodic lines and screamed vocals. The lyrics, in Hindi, Punjabi and English, address contemporary social and political themes — from mental health to sexual violence, as well as discrimination and corruption — helping to root Bloodywood in a specific Indian urban context. After a series of singles that circulated widely online, the band released the album "Rakshak" in 2022, a synthesis of this metal‑and‑folk approach. At the same time, Bloodywood has translated its energy to the stage by touring beyond India, notably in Europe and North America, while remaining true to the visual and sonic aesthetic forged in its early videos.
