SKÁLD

Formed in France in 2018 around composer and producer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet, SKÁLD has developed a neofolk repertoire with Nordic and pagan overtones, driven by percussion, traditionally inspired string instruments and vocals performed mainly in Old Norse as well as other Scandinavian languages. SKÁLD's lyrics draw on the myths, sagas and folklore of the North, adapting ancient sources within a contemporary musical framework. After a first EP released in 2018, SKÁLD issued Vikings Chant in 2019 and Vikings Memories in 2020, an album focused on maritime imagery, followed by the EP Winter Songs in 2021 and Huldufólk in 2023, which turns to the creatures and tales of Icelandic and Nordic folklore. SKÁLD's lineup has changed several times since its beginnings, while remaining structured around Voisin-Boisvinet and a collective of singers and instrumentalists. On stage, SKÁLD has appeared at festivals such as Hellfest, in a space where folk, metal and traditional music audiences intersect.
