Kevin Morby

Born in Lubbock, Texas in 1988 and raised near Kansas City, Kevin Morby has established himself on the American independent scene as a singer-songwriter rooted in folk rock, indie rock and an intimate form of Americana. He moved to New York in his late teens, became the bassist for the psych-folk band Woods and co-founded The Babies with Cassie Ramone, which placed him within Brooklyn’s lo-fi and garage network. From 2013 he pursued a solo career marked by a taste for detailed storytelling and urban and rural atmospheres, with the albums Harlem River (2013) and Still Life (2014), dominated by folk ballads and spare rock. After signing to Dead Oceans, Morby broadened his writing with Singing Saw (2016) and City Music (2017), which explore the imaginations of Californian hills and nocturnal American cities respectively, and with Oh My God (2019), an album more directly threaded with spiritual questions. Around 2020, the album Sundowner, inspired by a prolonged return to the Midwest, adopted a more stripped-down tone, while This Is a Photograph (2022) and More Photographs (A Continuum) (2023) continue this narrative vein focused on memory and American landscapes. On stage, Kevin Morby performs solo or with a band, alternating between club shows and festivals across Europe and North America.
