Vegyn

Born in London, Joe Thornalley—known as Vegyn—has forged a trajectory between electronic, ambient, abstract hip‑hop and experimental pop. Emerging from the British scene of the 2010s, Vegyn moved from DJing to production with an approach defined by broken rhythms, hazy pads, reworked samples and deliberately spare melodies. His work quickly expanded into collaborations within R&B and alternative circles, notably with Frank Ocean, while maintaining a personal language marked by loose tempos, fragmented structures and a taste for contrasts between intimacy and abstraction. Vegyn also runs PLZ Make It Ruins, a platform that supports his own releases and those of artists close to his universe. With Only Diamonds Cut Diamonds (2019) he melded ambient, breakbeats, IDM and minimal textures into an album with very free contours; Don’t Follow Me Because I’m Lost Too!! (2023) extends this approach, emphasising collages, breathing spaces and shifting forms. Between clubs, festivals and studio work, Vegyn occupies a distinct place in contemporary electronic music, at the intersection of dance music, experimentation and more pop-oriented formats.
