Kenya Grace

Born in Southampton and raised between South Africa and Surrey, Kenya Grace Johnson has developed a songwriting voice shaped by back-and-forths between cultures and sonic landscapes. Trained at the Academy of Contemporary Music in England, she leans toward electronic pop at the intersection of drum and bass, bedroom pop and minimalist R&B, with the voice taking a central role. From the late 2010s, her early online releases established a world of fast tempos, spare melodic lines and introspective lyrics about relationships, distance and vulnerability. 2023 marked a turning point with the single “Strangers,” written, composed and produced by her; its viral spread on social networks brought international attention and placed her at the top of the UK Singles Chart — a rare feat for a track entirely carried by a single female songwriter-producer-performer. Signed to Major Recordings and connected to the British electronic scene, she continues a practice in which production remains deliberately direct and melodic, favouring nocturnal atmospheres, club-leaning rhythmic bass and choruses built like intimate confidences, while still using digital platforms as a space to create and test new ideas.
