She Past Away

Formed in Bursa, Turkey, She Past Away has been developing since the mid‑2000s a dark synthesis of cold wave, dark wave and post‑punk sung in Turkish. The band grew around singer‑guitarist Volkan Caner and bassist İdris Akbulut, later joined by Doruk Öztürkcan, who became the other central member and shaped the project’s electronic dimension and production. Early tracks circulated in Turkey’s alternative scenes before the EP Kasvetli Kutlama appeared in 2010 and the album Belirdi Gece in 2012, which established the duo on European goth and post‑punk circuits. Narin Yalnızlık (2015) deepened an aesthetic of reverberant guitars, dry drum machines and repetitive bass lines, carried by Volkan Caner’s deep, detached vocals, while Disko Anksiyete (2019) introduced more pronounced tempos and synthpop influences without breaking the band’s dark coherence. The remix record X, released in 2020, confirmed the group’s international standing through dialogue with other dark wave projects. In concert, She Past Away regularly tours Europe and Latin America, plays specialised festivals and is firmly embedded in a network of clubs and scenes dedicated to cold, goth and post‑punk aesthetics.
