VOLA

Formed in Copenhagen in 2006, VOLA brings together vocalist and guitarist Asger Mygind, keyboardist Martin Werner, bassist Nicolai Mogensen, and, since 2017, Swedish drummer Adam Janzi. The group first established itself in the Danish underground with the EPs Homesick Machinery in 2008 and Monsters in 2011, before asserting its identity on Inmazes in 2015, then on Applause of a Distant Crowd in 2018, Witness in 2021 and Friend of a Phantom in 2024. VOLA's music crosses progressive metal, progressive rock, djent and alternative rock, with a significant emphasis on electronic textures and melodic choruses. Where many bands in the same field rely on demonstration, VOLA favours songs built around clear contrasts between syncopated riffs, atmospheric keyboards and clear vocal lines. This writing has accompanied the band's evolution toward a broader sound, where rhythmic density coexists with lighter, more airy passages and influences from electro and trip-hop. Over the years, VOLA has toured Europe with Katatonia, Haken or Monuments, while developing its own headline tours. Among the documented collaborations are SHAHMEN on “These Black Claws” in 2021 and Anders Fridén on “Cannibal” in 2024.
