Textures

Born in the early 2000s from the Dutch metal scene, Textures formed in Etten-Leur in North Brabant around a core of musicians drawn to a blend of progressive metal, metalcore and polyrhythmic textures. The band quickly developed a writing style built on syncopated riffs, frequent time signature changes, subtle electronic layers and an alternation of screamed and melodic vocals, situating their music close to a djent aesthetic without being confined to it. The debut album Polars (2003) attracted attention among specialist audiences, while Drawing Circles (2006) and Silhouettes (2008) confirmed Textures’ progressive, structured direction with extended tracks and a strong emphasis on dynamics. Signing to Nuclear Blast for Dualism (2011) broadened their international reach and led to extensive touring across Europe, often sharing bills with contemporary metal acts. Phenotype (2016), conceived as the first part of a conceptual diptych, was followed by an announced split in 2017 and a series of farewell shows, before Textures signalled a return to the stage from 2023, still operating in a technical and melodic vein at the intersection of extreme metal and progressive rock.
