Vulkan

Formed in Karlstad, Sweden, Vulkan has been developing since 2006 a sound at the crossroads of progressive rock and progressive metal, with a marked taste for taut melodies, rhythmic variation and cinematic atmospheres. Originally active under a different name, the band evolved its identity as its sound hardened and took a heavier direction. Vulkan laid down its first discographic markers with Mask Of Air in 2011 and Observants in 2016—two albums that already reveal a songwriting based on contrasts between airy passages, denser sequences and the progressive construction of songs. With Technatura in 2020, Vulkan tightened this approach in a more ambitious format, where compositions remain fluid despite their density and the balance between tension, melody and sonic breadth becomes central. On stage, Vulkan figures in the European progressive circuit, notably appearing at ProgPower Europe in 2022, and also shares bills with acts such as Pain of Salvation. For Vulkan, metal intensity therefore remains tied to precise work on textures, dynamics and musical storytelling.
