Tom Rosenthal
Born in London in 1986, Tom Rosenthal has since the mid-2000s developed a songwriter's voice—between indie folk and indie pop—with short, melodic songs often carried by piano, guitar and a form of voluntary simplicity. Rosenthal first built himself outside the traditional circuits of the music industry, releasing his music independently on the internet and developing a universe where discreet humor, everyday observation and more intimate themes coexist without rupture. His discography notably includes Keep a Private Room Behind the Shop (2011), Who’s That in the Fog? and B-Sides (2013), Bolu (2015), Fenn (2017), Z-Sides (2018), Denis Was a Bird (2021) and Zz-Sides (2023). His repertoire alternates chamber folk, acoustic pop and leaner pieces, with particular attention to light arrangements and lyrics that blend concrete details, offbeatness and melancholy. Under the name Edith Whiskers, Tom Rosenthal has also released covers in an even more minimalist register, gathered on Stop Stealing The Covers! (2020). His songs have circulated beyond the concert circuit, notably in series, films and trailers, prolonging the presence of music that is at once direct, gentle and lightly oblique.
