The Horrors
Formed in 2005 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, The Horrors began as a raw garage-rock outfit with gothic and post‑punk overtones before expanding their sound into broader textures mixing shoegaze, psychedelic rock and dark electronics. Led by Faris Badwan, the band attracted attention with Strange House (2007) and then shifted course significantly with Primary Colours (2009), recorded with Craig Silvey and Geoff Barrow, where keyboards, motoric rhythms and cold atmospheres took centre stage. That approach continued on Skying (2011), Luminous (2014) and V (2017), which developed a more expansive sound combining misty melodies, post‑punk tension and synthetic pulse. In 2021 The Horrors released the EPs Lout and Against the Blade, which are tighter and more industrial. The band’s recent history has also been marked by lineup changes: after periods with Tom Furse, Joshua Hayward and Joe Spurgeon, new members such as Amelia Kidd, Jordan Cook and John Victor gathered around Faris Badwan and Rhys Webb. Night Life, released in 2025, extends this trajectory while retaining The Horrors’ nocturnal, shifting identity.
