The Subways

Born in the early 2000s in Hertfordshire, England, the rock trio The Subways originally brought together Billy Lunn, Charlotte Cooper and Josh Morgan around a mix of indie rock, garage and melodic punk. Spotted on the London scene, The Subways released their debut album Young for Eternity in 2005, driven by the single “Rock & Roll Queen,” which established the band within the British rock landscape and on the festival circuit. Their second album, All or Nothing, recorded in Los Angeles and released in 2008, featured denser songwriting while retaining straightforward guitar work. With Money and Celebrity in 2011 and The Subways in 2015, the band explored a more pop-leaning, anthemic side while remaining centered on a power trio format, even after Josh Morgan’s departure and the arrival of Camille Phillips on drums. The Subways continued to evolve with Uncertain Joys in 2023, where the band’s alternative rock opened up to keyboards and more introspective themes, while keeping the live energy that has defined The Subways since their inception.
