The Strumbellas

Formed in Toronto, Canada, in 2008, The Strumbellas developed a sound at the crossroads of indie folk, alternative rock and a certain country heritage, placing strong emphasis on choruses, collective vocal melodies and songwriting built around simple, repeated refrains. The band, organized around Simon Ward’s songs, first gained recognition on the Canadian indie scene with an EP in 2009 and their debut album My Father and the Hunter in 2012, followed by We Still Move on Dance Floors in 2013. The Strumbellas then consolidated this accessible folk-rock aesthetic with Hope in 2016, propelled by the single "Spirits", and with Rattlesnake in 2019, which accentuated pop elements and more direct tempos. In 2022 Simon Ward withdrew from touring while remaining the principal songwriter; lead vocals on stage were taken over by Jimmy Chauveau, opening a new phase for The Strumbellas, extended by the album Part Time Believer in 2024 and by regular tours across North America and Europe.
