The Shapeshifters

Launched in the UK by Simon Marlin, initially as a duo with Swedish producer Max Reich, The Shapeshifters sit within a vocal house and disco-house aesthetic rooted in soul, funk and British club culture. The project expanded in 2004 with «Lola’s Theme», first issued as an instrumental before becoming a landmark house track of the 2000s and reaching number one in the UK. As a duo they followed with «Back to Basics», «Incredible» and «Sensitivity» (the latter with Chic), and released the album Sound Advice in 2006. After an initial period on Positiva, The Shapeshifters joined Defected in 2008 and developed Nocturnal Groove in parallel, maintaining a steady output of original productions, mixed compilations and remixes for artists such as George Michael, Frankie Knuckles, Moby and Christina Aguilera. Long established on the European house circuits and in Ibiza, the project changed form in 2017 when Max Reich withdrew and Simon Marlin continued solo under the name The Shapeshifters. This period notably includes «Life Is a Dancefloor» (2019), «Second Chance» (2020) and the album Let Loose (2022), continuing a warm, forward-facing house style closely tied to the disco legacy.
