David Morales
DJ and house producer born in Brooklyn in 1961 to a Puerto Rican family, David Morales became a central figure in New York’s club scene in the 1980s, shaped by the legacy of disco and the nights at Paradise Garage. By the end of the decade he had made a name for himself as a DJ and remixer, before co‑founding Def Mix Productions with Frankie Knuckles and Judy Weinstein, an outfit associated with New York vocal house. Throughout the 1990s Morales carried out extensive remix work, reworking tracks by Mariah Carey, Madonna, U2 and Jamiroquai in a style that blends house rhythms, soulful basslines and melodic arrangements designed for the dancefloor, which earned him the 1998 Grammy Award for Remixer of the Year, Non‑Classical. As a producer he released The Program with The Bad Yard Club in 1993 and the albums 2 Worlds Collide in 2005 and Changes in 2012, reflecting his affinity for vocal house often fronted by R&B or pop singers. Still active on international stages, David Morales alternates long DJ sets with studio productions, maintaining a constant link between American club culture and global electronic circuits.
