The Pineapple Thief
Founded in 1999 in Yeovil, Somerset, around singer, guitarist and composer Bruce Soord, The Pineapple Thief began as a studio project before becoming an established band in the British progressive rock scene of the 2000s. Their music blends progressive rock, alternative rock and art rock, featuring melodic guitars, melancholic atmospheres and songwriting that favours dynamics over flashy virtuosity. After the early albums Abducting the Unicorn (1999), 137 (2002) and Variations on a Dream (2003), The Pineapple Thief honed its format with Tightly Unwound (2008), Someone Here Is Missing (2010) and All the Wars (2012), where the band developed a more direct sound without abandoning its atmospheric textures. Magnolia (2014) marked a more concise approach, before the arrival of drummer Gavin Harrison—initially a collaborator and subsequently a full member—on Your Wilderness (2016), Dissolution (2018) and Versions of the Truth (2020). Now a steady quartet with Jon Sykes and Steve Kitch alongside Bruce Soord, The Pineapple Thief continues this trajectory on It Leads to This (2024), balancing rhythmic tension, introspection and a sense of melodic progression.
