Steven Wilson

Born in Kingston upon Thames in 1967 and raised in Hemel Hempstead, Steven Wilson has since the 1980s developed a body of work spanning progressive rock, art rock, psychedelia, ambient, pop and occasionally heavier, metal-leaning episodes. Wilson first emerged with Porcupine Tree, a project launched in the late 1980s that became central to his career, while simultaneously leading No-Man with Tim Bowness and pursuing other ventures such as Bass Communion, focused on experimental textures and drone, Blackfield with Aviv Geffen, and Storm Corrosion with Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. His solo career took shape with Insurgentes in 2008, followed by Grace for Drowning (2011), The Raven That Refused to Sing (and Other Stories) (2013), Hand. Cannot. Erase. (2015), To the Bone (2017), The Future Bites (2021), The Harmony Codex (2023) and The Overview (2025). Wilson's style blends narrative formats, long-form constructions, melancholic atmospheres, clean or saturated guitars, understated electronics and a meticulous focus on sonic space. Beyond his own records, he has also produced or remixed the catalogs of artists such as Opeth, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes and Tears for Fears, extending his work as composer, arranger and producer.
