System of a Down
System of a Down is an American metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1995 by Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian. During the first two years, the lineup was unstable. Ultimately, the official lineup settled in 1997, consisting of Daron, Serj, John Dolmayan, and Shavo Odadjian. That same year, the band had already recorded several demos, which they performed at local shows in California. Spotted by a producer at American Recordings, System of a Down recorded its self-titled debut album, released in 1997. The band's distinctive style began to attract followers, and their socially conscious lyrics won over audiences. System of a Down then started playing numerous U.S. festivals and concerts before releasing the album "Toxicity" four years later. A true commercial success, this second album sold by the thousands, topping the U.S. charts. After a compilation released in 2002, System of a Down returned in 2005 with "Hypnotize" and "Mezmerize," two records that reached number one on the Billboard 200. Following an intense stretch of touring, the metal band took a break from studio work. The members focused on solo careers, such as Shavo, who formed the group Achozen. In 2011, System of a Down regrouped to once again hit venues and festivals, including the Garorock festival in 2013. That same year, rumors circulated about the production and recording of a new album.
