Slipknot
Formed in Des Moines, Iowa in 1995, Slipknot built itself around a heavy metal sound blending nu metal, alternative metal and groove metal, with an expanded on-stage configuration that for a long time consisted of nine musicians. The band established itself in the late 1990s with a visual identity based on masks and jumpsuits, but also with dense, rhythmic and abrasive music, where guitars tuned quite down, multiple percussion, electronic textures and an alternation of screamed vocals and more melodic lines cohabit. After the Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. demo in 1996, Slipknot took on another dimension with Slipknot in 1999, then Iowa in 2001, a darker and more frontal album. Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004 broadened their range even further, before All Hope Is Gone in 2008. Slipknot's history is also marked by several lineup changes, notably after the death of bassist Paul Gray in 2010, then the departures of Joey Jordison, Chris Fehn, Craig Jones and Jay Weinberg. The band then continued its journey with .5: The Gray Chapter in 2014, We Are Not Your Kind in 2019 and The End, So Far in 2022. Led at the forefront of the stage by Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan, Slipknot remains associated with very physical live performances, at the crossroads of extreme metal and a broader songwriting heritage inherited from American alternative rock.
