Drowning Pool

Formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1996, Drowning Pool was built around the core of C.J. Pierce (guitar), Mike Luce (drums) and Stevie Benton (bass), with a trajectory marked by several vocalist changes. Arriving in 1999, Dave Williams gave the band its first strong identity with Sinner (2001), the album that includes “Bodies,” the song that placed Drowning Pool on the early‑2000s American metal map between nu metal, alternative metal, hard rock and post‑grunge. Appearing on stages such as Ozzfest and alongside bands like Sevendust, Kittie and (hed) p.e., Drowning Pool then endured Williams’s death in 2002 and continued with Jason Jones on Desensitized (2004), Ryan McCombs on Full Circle (2007) and Drowning Pool (2010), and later Jasen Moreno on Resilience (2013), Hellelujah (2016) and Strike a Nerve (2022). The band’s sound remains centered on heavy riffs, direct choruses and a constant tension between rhythmic aggression and more immediate rock formats. Since 2023, Ryan McCombs has returned as vocalist, continuing the activity of a band that has stayed true to its sonic core while regularly changing frontmen.
