Self Deception

Born in Stockholm, Self Deception took shape in 2005 around singer Andreas Clark and drummer Erik Ingels Graham, before stabilizing as a quartet with Ronny Westphal on guitar and Patrik Hallgren on bass. Self Deception operates in a space between modern rock, metal and melodic hard rock, featuring dense guitars, catchy vocals and choruses written with a pop sensibility while retaining a heavy foundation. After their first album, Restitution (2009), the band refined its approach on Over the Threshold (2011) and the EP These Walls (2014), a period during which they worked with Joy Deb, Linnea Deb and producer Dino Medanhodzic. Subsequent releases demonstrate a gradual shift toward a bigger, more direct sound with Self Deception (2018), Endorse the Art (2019), Shapes (2020), Reshaped (2020), You Are Only As Sick As Your Secrets (2023) and Destroy the Art (2024). Active on Scandinavian stages, Self Deception has also shared bills with Takida, Young Guns and Lower Than Atlantis, while maintaining an identity defined by contrasts between metal energy, radio-friendly rock conventions and a strong sense of melody.
